In 2009 Hemporium became involved with UCT’s Green Campus Initiative (GCI), a student run organisation which aims to raise environmental awareness on campus and inspire students to take greater responsibility for their footprint on this planet.
We joined them at their Sustainable Living Expo which ran during the course of Green Week and both parties felt the synergy to be a positive one.
Hemporium agreed to further support their noble cause by donating prizes for students and some cool hemp gear for the Green Police.
This year we are working closely with the GCI with the intention of educating students as to hemps potential as a sustainable resource and breaking the misconception about its narcotic value (since it has none).
First semester brought about the Green Bowls Day, coordinated for students by the GCI, a fun filled green day at the Mowbray Bowling Club. The event was a great success and the day enjoyed by all who partook with reports saying that students were bowled over by the hemptastic prizes we sponsored.
Next year promises to be even bigger and we’re planning to further blossom our relationship with these enthusiastic young greenies and encourage them every step of the way.
